Address Updates Sought by Treasurer

Chydonna Thurston - Friday, November 18, 2016

The Beaufort County Treasurer’s Office is in the process of mailing over 3,800 postcards to property owners whose address of record may no longer be correct. South Carolina State Statute requires notices be sent to the address of record. If a taxpayer’s mailing address is outdated, they may not receive correspondence from Beaufort County.

These small postcards contain the taxpayer’s delinquent Property Identification Number (PIN) and the total amount due. A taxpayer may return the postcard with their updated mailing address or complete our easy online form, as well as pay the delinquent tax outstanding.

“On too many occasions I have spoken to taxpayers who did not receive a tax notice because their mailing address was outdated. While it is incumbent upon the taxpayer to keep their mailing address updated, we need to do our best to reach every taxpayer. Through the use of technology, our office was able to electronically detect incorrect mailing addresses and identify alternative addresses which now allow more proactive communication with thousands of taxpayers,” said Maria Walls, CPA, Beaufort County Treasurer
