Bidder registration for the Beaufort County Delinquent Tax Sale began on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. The Tax Sale will take place Monday, October 7, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Buckwalter Recreation Center located at 905 Buckwalter Pkwy in Bluffton.
Individuals wishing to bid on properties being auctioned at the Beaufort County Tax sale must register in advance of the auction. Registration will no be permitted the day of the sale.
Bidders may register in advance online or at any of our three office locations by 12:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2019. The registration fee is $30.00 and includes a list of all properties to be sold, distributed by email as well as the morning of the auction.
On the day of the sale, bidder sign-in will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 9:30 a.m. All bidders must be signed in no later than 9:30 a.m. All bid payments, deed preparation costs, and recording fees must be paid in full before the close of business on the day of the tax sale with guaranteed funds.
"Bidders are encouraged to do their own research and have a full understanding of what they are purchasing," said Beaufort County Treasurer Maria Walls. To assist in this endeavor, the Treasurer's Office provides historical data pertaining to past tax sales and other useful resources online.
"we provide these resources to help empower, bidders to make educated purchases and to encourage bidding. We would rather not auction anyone's property but if that has occur, we want bidding to be competitive because overage money goes to the delinquent property owner; not the County, "Treasurer Walls explained.
All real estate subject to auction must be advertised once per week for three (3) consecutive weeks prior to the tax sale date. The first advertised listing will be on September 15, 2019. A complete list of properties for auction will be advertised in the Beaufort Gazette, Island Packet and Bluffton Sun as well as online at BeaufortCountyTreasurer.com.
Properties are advertised and auctioned in alphabetical order according to the defaulting owner's last name or company name as listed in Beaufort County's tax system. If an owner has multiple properties being auctioned, the properties will be advertised and auctioned in numerical order by Property Identification Number (PIN).
