Beaufort County Treasurer Doug Henderson announced he would not seek or run for re-election this November.
“I make this announcement, convinced that, by the end of my term on June 30, 2015, I will have accomplished the goals I had established for myself and this office,” said Mr. Henderson.
He continued by saying, “I ran for this position to fix the many problems that were obvious and well documented, and I believe we have corrected all the issues associated with accountability and leadership within this office. I have been fortunate to accumulate an outstanding staff that I know will continue to build on the changes and improvements we have made.”
Mr. Henderson also announced while he is not seeking a second term, he is supporting his Deputy Treasurer Maria Walls, who is running to be his successor. “She has been instrumental in every achievement and accomplishment the Treasurer’s office has obtained and for that reason, I am placing my full support behind her to become the next Beaufort County Treasurer,” said Mr. Henderson.
After his term expires, Mr. Henderson plans to retire and spend more time with family and enjoy fishing.
